The core business of Child Welfare South Africa Knysna is child protection and they operate within the Knysna Magisterial district. This is done at 3 levels of intervention.
Casework involves a one to one contact and all cases that require statutory intervention are dealt with at this level Children who have been placed in alternative care are dealt with through all three models - casework , groupwork and the Community development approach.
Child Welfare are also involved in preventive work which is mostly done at the 3rd level and have just run the LET"S GET REAL programme in our local schools.  Children in alternative care are monitored until they turn 18 and are discharged from the conditions of the Child Care Act.

Child Welfare have approximately 800 children on their caseloads of which plus/minus 200 are legally placed in alternative care - fostercare,adoption, children's homes and schools of industry.

Child Welfare are coordinating the following projects :
Dorothy Broster Children's Centre which houses 30 children ages 0 - 18

Masizame Arts and Crafts Centre
The following creches : Bitou, Lilliput, Hildur Stent, Ethembeni,Concordia, Paula Witney and Rainbow Kids An 8th creche is in the process of affiliating with Child Welfare - Bongani. These accommodate almost 2000 children.
16 Soupkitchens spread throughout the community also resort under our supervision and support. They feed nearly 2000 hungry children and AIDS sufferers several times per week.
The Knysna AIDS Cluster - Child Welfare are the conduit organisation whereby government funding for AIDS sufferers is channeled to the following organisations in Knysna who deal with AIDS patients: Hospice, the ARV Clinic, Knysna Caring Services and Child Welfare. The funding provides food parcels and memory boxes.
Child Welfare have submitted plans for 4 additional poor relief - job creation -projects and are awaiting funding responses.
